Built With Intention, Rooted in Connection

Beyond the Pines Mental Health was built on the belief that meaningful care takes time. Here, care moves at a thoughtful pace so individuals can feel heard and begin to understand their experiences in a way that makes change feel possible.

Beyond the Pines reflects the heart of this work.

Much like the pines that withstand nature’s storms, growth is never forced. It happens steadily, often quietly, through seasons of change. Peace is not something to achieve, but something that emerges as the nervous system begins to feel safe and supported.

Many of the challenges individuals experience are not signs of failure. They are often learned responses shaped through experience and development, showing up as symptoms that once served a purpose. The focus here is on understanding these patterns with compassion and intention, allowing change to come from within rather than through pressure.

Medication can be an important part of care, especially when symptoms interfere with daily life, learning, relationships, or sleep. When used, it is approached thoughtfully as one part of a larger plan. For some, medication provides stability while deeper work unfolds. For others, care may focus more on therapeutic understanding. There is no single approach that works for everyone. Care is individualized to meet your needs wherever you are in your journey.

At Beyond the Pines Mental Health, our work is grounded in evidence-based psychiatric practice and informed by a whole-person perspective that considers biological, emotional, relational, and day-to-day influences on mental health. Appointments are available via secure telehealth throughout Minnesota, with in-person visits by request and when appropriate.

Kayla Wolling, PMHNP-BC

Kayla is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founder of Beyond the Pines Mental Health.

Before opening her practice, she spent time working in community mental health and completed clinical rotations in the outpatient setting. Those experiences deepened her respect for how individual and complex each person’s journey can be. In those settings, she saw both meaningful progress and moments of uncertainty. Kayla understands how it can feel to leave appointments with more questions than answers or to try different approaches and still feel stuck. Those experiences shaped how she practices and the importance placed on allowing time to pause and keeping choice the focus throughout the process.

Kayla’s work includes medication management and supportive therapy. Medication can be helpful for some and less beneficial for others, which is why shared decision-making guides each conversation. We take time to review treatment options and consider the potential risks and benefits before making decisions. Her role is to walk alongside you as we sort through what feels helpful and what does not, at a pace that supports clarity and confidence in our work together.

Beyond the Pines was created to offer a place where care feels different. Not because it’s complicated, but because there is time to be thoughtful and make intentional choices that meet real needs.

Meet Finn

Finn is Beyond the Pines Mental Health’s four-legged, unofficial office assistant. While he’s not a therapy dog, he serves as a quiet reminder to pause, breathe, and notice the small moments.
